easy little hack?

what is the best way of adding a brief little description of each product that is featured on the main page?

 

i have looked in the contributions section which gives one solution, but this requires a new paragraph to be written which wont help me as i have many products already on line?

Assuming you mean within the listing of new products on the index ...

 

Find in /catalog/includes/modules/new_products.php:

 

while ($new_products = tep_db_fetch_array($new_products_query)) {

 

Add below:

 

  $products_description_query = tep_db_query("select products_description FROM " . TABLE_PRODUCTS_DESCRIPTION . " WHERE products_id = '" . $new_products['products_id'] . "'");
 $products_description = tep_db_fetch_array($products_description_query);

 

Example usage:

 

<?php echo $products_description['products_description']; ?>

 

 

If you want to limit the extent of the descrition returned, you can use a PHP function for that.

yeah i think you get what i mean, ideally i would want to have where the box titled "new books" i would like to change that to have one book with a description pulled from the actual product description beside it.

 

I would like to be able to set the number of chars in the description and have a

 

"......Click to read on"

 

if anything is cut off.
