Error 403 when going into catalog/admin directory

I used the search option before I posted, but I couldn't any other posts with someone who had this same problem.

 

My shopping cart works perfectly. can make users can even get as far as checking out, not a single problem what-so-ever

 

but when I try to log into the administrative portion of it at catalog/admin it gives me the 403 Forbidden error.

 

I have permissions set on 744 on the folder AND on the index.php file, and it still gives me the same error.

 

What am I doing wrong? Any clues on how to remedy this issue?

call you host and ask them to reset permission on your admin directory

chmod the admin dir to 777 "chmod -R 777 admin" from the catalog directory

change the name from admin to something else and reflect that change in the /admin/include/configuration.php file

I ended up reinstalling and using your suggestion...works perfectly.

 

now all I need to do is figure out how to enable ssl on this and it's ready to roll.
