Is osCommerce for me?

I'm going to be setting up a site that allows people to purchase music for download and also purchase music that will actually be posted to customers.

 

What I want to know is how osCommerce makes this possible and what I need. I've heard things before about internet merchant accounts and such, is this necessary? Also how does the actual payment system work? does it go hand in hand with someone like pay pal?

 

I've used phpbb before so I do have experience in the whole installation of the actual php files and modification etc. I just need to know about the practicalities of the payment system.

osCommerce caters to downloadable products - I believe you will find UK Post shipping modules in Contributions

 

There are many different payment options - osCommerce comes with several default modules (you need an account for most) - you will also find additional payment modules in Contributions.

ok so if i upload and install oscommerce to my web space will it all become clear about how i go about getting it working with receiving payments? what payment systems would u recommend i get it to work with?

 

and when i install it does it initially run as a demo for me to play around with?
