adding box for middle content

I am not sure how to keep the content between my column-left and coloum-right contained. They are pushing things out so that the page does not stay at the 785 px width i have set everything else to, you can check it out if you want to see what i mean:

I've tried a few ways of changing the index.php by adding a <table> </table> but don't know where to start and finish the tags in the file to get just the middle section contained.

You have to change every files in the catalog folder to 785 px

You wont need to change all files just header footer and styles

Thankyou both for your help, i will have to check them out later when on my home PC. I will check out the contribution and see if it is easier than just going through the files.
