I just downloaded oscommerce a bit ago and started the installation process by following the step by step in install.txt. I ran http://localhost/catalog/install and follow the instructions on screen until it asked these info: Database server, DB user name, DB password, DB name, Persistent, and Session storage. I filled out everything, clicked Continue, and got stuck the next page. The next page never finished loading. It showed only part of it and stuck... :( please see the attachment picture. What did I do wrong? Please help.

My machine is Windows2000 Pro running Apache2, PHP5, and MySQL4.

Thank you,

Patrick

php 5 is not supported yet.

That's the only response I can offer you.

Local: Mac OS X 10.5.8 - Apache 2.2/php 5.3.0/MySQL 5.4.10 • Web Servers: Linux

Tools: BBEdit, Coda, Versions (Subversion), Sequel Pro (db management)

AlanR,

Thanks for your advice. I removed the php5 and installed php4.3.8, then that "half page load" problem was gone. However, I've got another error. In the database import section, after giving the DB server, DB user name, DB password, and DB name, I clicked Continue button and got the following error:

A test connection made to the database was NOT successful.

The error message returned is:

Host 'sierra' is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server

Please click on the Back button below to review your database server settings.

If you require help with your database server settings, please consult your hosting company.

What did I do wrong? I gave the correct DB server name (my hostname), DB name (a database with one table), DB user name (root), and DB password (*****). MySQL is installed in the same computer as PHP and Apache (my home computer). I could access the database from mysql command line. No problem. Did I miss something?

Please advice, thank you

Patrick

AlanR,

I just solved the problem! The DB server name must be "localhost", not my computer hostname. I'm quite happy now B)

Thanks,

Patrick
