input buttons and fields

hi

i have been building extra web forms lately but am having problems making them look neat on both a mac and a pc (both using IE!!) I dont tend to have this problem normally as the buttons are not usually placed next to the field. they are normally in a separate table cell underneath but using them for a search, i want them side by side.

i set the stylesheet up and create a form field (text box) with a style on it and to the right of it a button with a style on it. it is to be used for a search box ie

SEARCH INPUT GO

(imagine search input is an input field and go is a button)

i make the styles use the same font, colours etc yet I cannot get the items to both align neatly. If they even slightly align on a PC, they are miles apart on a MAC. They seek to work in opposites lol. I make the button larger for one, it shrinks for the other. Its nuts!

Anyone got a good way of making them the same size?

they are both rectangles so i cannot see why i cant get them to line up neatly. they are both aligned the same, either centre top or bottom. but it makes no difference!!

i have even tried using image input types iunstead of submit type but this only seems to align them on a pc. on a mac they are a long way out of line.

i am tearing my hair out on this one because im sure it is so simple....

any help will be most appreciated.

always here to offer some useless advice....
