oldstumpy Posted August 3, 2004 Posted August 3, 2004 I am using Dreamweaver on a Mac to FTP my files. I cannot right click the files to change permissions ... as us Mac users only have one button ! Anyway, control clicking usually does the same but in this case no option to change permissions or chmod (what is this by the way ?) I can change permissions through my server Cpanel but only by taking USER, GROUP, and OTHER then checking READ, WRITE, and/or EXEC beside each one. I remember having to do this with a PHPBB I installed sometime ago. Can someone tell me what 644, 777, etc equates to by checking the relevant permissions against the type of user. Many thanks
AlanR Posted August 3, 2004 Posted August 3, 2004 Here's a chmod calculator http://www.ninjasuit.com/scripts/script.php?script_id=63 There's lots of ftp programs, free and otherwise for Mac that allow you to change permissions. Local: Mac OS X 10.5.8 - Apache 2.2/php 5.3.0/MySQL 5.4.10 • Web Servers: Linux Tools: BBEdit, Coda, Versions (Subversion), Sequel Pro (db management)
oldstumpy Posted August 3, 2004 Author Posted August 3, 2004 Thanks - that's exactly what I needed. Can anyone reccomend a good (freeware) ftp client for the Mac ? DW MX is very good for file management but a tad sluggish in performance. Thanks again.

Captain FTP is the best IMHO....not sure it's still free since I had heard rumors they were going commercial......but I have used it for years and still do to this day. they have an OS X version.....
