Mark-UK Posted August 1, 2004 Posted August 1, 2004 OK I have a site with the version of OSC thats rather old (2.2 ? MS1) What would happen if i was to install the newer version of oscommerce, would i lose my sites template design etc and would i have to start again with setting the details of my new oscommerce etc. I wanted to add a contribution, the enable/disable categories feature but ive been told it wont work as my sites oscommerce is too old. So can you install a newer version of oscommerce and if so will it mean i hav to install my template again and basically start from scratch.

I would setup a new shop in a different directory and work on it while leaving the old one up and going and then change over to the new one when it is done. Yes you basically have to start from scratch but there is a good chance you can transfer the template and some of your other work from your old site so you do not lose all your work. There is no way however that I would try it on a live shop hence my first suggestion. The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing. Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems? There are many very useful osC Contributions Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??
Mark-UK Posted August 1, 2004 Author Posted August 1, 2004 Whats the advantages of the new oscommerce software, can it do things the older version cant, is it better or what, cheers. It is a major flaw for me if i just carry on with my present site and not have the newer version of oscommerce. Id need to know either way if i could upgarde my site to the new version. Theres no products on it yet or owt.
