angel_duzt Posted August 1, 2004 Posted August 1, 2004 Hello All I am very new to this oscommerce thing so be patient with me please!!!! First of all, I have downloaded a thumbnailing program but dont know what size to resize my images to ... does anyone know the thumbnail sizing? All my images that I am wamting to put in my catalog are all different shapes and sizes, so I am struggling. Secondly, I dont know what the image settings should be in the actual oscommerce catalog configuration??? Lastly, I can upload my images by using ftp to my site, but when i go to browse to put them in my catalog, it only gives me an option to upload the image from my c drive and not the actual site, how does everyone do this?? I really hope you can help me as I have been struggling trying to work it out on my own for weeks!! :( Thanks in advance Emma
Guest Posted August 1, 2004 Posted August 1, 2004 You can set image sizes to whatever suits you/your images :D The stock osCommerce thumb size is 100x80, but this is not a hard and fast rule - I'm not sur if your thumb contribution will crop images to a consistent size (it should) - if not, you may need to use an image editor for some consistency, or set one of the image settings in admin->configuration->images to '' (null) You should use the browse button and upload your image from your local machine when you create a product Matti
angel_duzt Posted August 1, 2004 Author Posted August 1, 2004 Hi Matti thanks for your reply, i now have the right sizes but now i find i have trouble with the resolution, some look perfect others look really blurred .. do you know how to change this? Thanks again Emma
Guest Posted August 1, 2004 Posted August 1, 2004 Hi Emma - the resolution is as good as your original source image - assuming no size distortions are occuring (ie: the ratio is of the pic is still staying the same) your image will only look good up to a certain size. So if your source image is starting out at say roughly 100 x 100 for arguements sake - you may well find that displaying it at a bigger size (200 x 200) will make it look blocky possibly. This has nothing to do with the Oscommerce package but is just simply a trade off in quality for a smaller file size. If you want your pic's to remain detailed and unblocky you've got to get hold of 'larger' pics/or take them yourself at a much higher resolution (bigger file size) - the upshot will be that your images that are displayed as thumbnails will then take longer to download as they will now have the capability to display much larger as well. There are plenty of contributions that have differing ways of dealing with these parameters - some very good at using only the mimimum file size necessary for the display size selected, it's just about reading and experimenting. Hope that helps you a bit, Good luck. ;)
