Using special chars in address fields

I've noticed that when trying to add a new delivery address that osCommerce doesn't handle /'s or -'s (slashes or dashes). In fact it not only doesn't accept it, it doesn't throw any errors, it just clears the form and leaves you with the same page you we're at.

 

I was wondering if there is a fix for this as I know for myself my address contains a slash and a dash, I know I can't be the only one, so trying to prevent problems at this stage.
