When I downloaded a contribution, the instructions state:

Make sure to uninstall and reinstall the contribution in the admin panel if you were running a previous version, and fill in the blanks with your information.

What does this mean...I'm an extreme newbie to this...

Thanx

I don't know which contribution you are referring to and have never ran across that statement before. But I would guess the author is saying to uninstall it and set everything back to the way it was before so that you know you have a working shop without that particular contribution installed. Once you do that, then go ahead and re-install. I could be wrong though.

However, if you are new to this and haven't installed a contribution before, then it is unlikely that the contribution is already installed. So you should be able to skip that step.

Most, if not all, contributions have a support thread in which you can ask questions specifically about that contribution. Do a search on the name of the contribution and you should find it. There may be more than one if it is a popular contribution so you will just have to wade through them.

We all need to learn it once, how hard it may seem when you look at it, also you will master it someday ;)

This is because you are replacing a module and the old one could still be installed.

For example if you are installing the paypal ipn module you will not automatically see the new fields until you install it in your admin panel so what you would need to do is go to admin->modules->payment screen and then click on paypal and uninstall it. You then click on it again and then install it and it will install with using the new files you uploaded when you installed the contribution and all the new fields will be available.

This should be true of any payment or shipping module that replaces files in the

includes/modules/payment

or

includes/modules/shipping

folders
