Hi,

While trying to install my OSCommerce store I ran into problems dealing with CHMODS. I recently had a conversation with someone about this issue and they helped me tremendously. I have included the conversation in this post.

This conversation has been heavily edited for clarity and conciseness.

alienxg7: hi

mibblemibble: hello

alienxg7: ive been trying hard to find info on CHMODs but can't; I've also tried searching in the knowledge base.

mibblemibble: Chmod the catalog/images and everything below it, same with downloads, pub, temp

mibblemibble: Chmod all of them to 777

mibblemibble: as well as the backups folder and also the graphs folder located in admin/images/

alienxg7: Ok, thanks but the temp folder isnt in catalog

mibblemibble: then you need to create one

alienxg7: ok, thanks

alienxg7: what about security risks with 777?

mibblemibble: the program handles them all

mibblemibble: if your web server is setup properly u have no problem. if you dont have a good administrator, then you are in for a lot of trouble

alienxg7: i use shared hosting

alienxg7: oscommerce handles them?

mibblemibble: yes

alienxg7: oh ok, thanks

alienxg7: i heard the catalog folder had to be transferred using ASCII

alienxg7: not binary

mibblemibble: what ftp program do u use? most do things automatically

alienxg7: FileZilla

mibblemibble: i dont know how that one works, everything i xfer i just send up and it goes fine

alienxg7: oh ok, thank you very much for your help!
