lokksta Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 I'm not sure if this is possible, but I'll ask anyway. Basically, I have a client who would like a website to sell some of his mp3's on (legally, they're his own). He was wondering if there was any way to customize a cd with any combination of mp3's the customer would like (add songs up to 80 mins, then get charged say ?5 for that cd, and when the customer has selected another 80 mins of music he would get charged another ?5). This is instead of getting charged per mp3. He would also like to sell regular cd's aswell as custom ones. Would this be possible using oscommerce? And if so is this the best way to do it? I appreciate any advice anyone can give, I've searched the forum numerous times but couldn't find anything suitable.
winstanley_john Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 Add each song as a seperate product, with a duration attribute or perhaps an extrra field for duration in the products description table. At checkout calculate the total duration. You should check out the legal side properly though http://spaces.msn.com/members/JohnWinstanley/ http://www.angelsolutions.co.uk
lokksta Posted July 30, 2004 Author Posted July 30, 2004 Thanks for your reply. I have thought of doing something like this but I'm not really sure how I would calculate the total duration and get rid of the pricing per product at the checkout.
ryanf Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 you could just think of weight as duration in this case since you know what one CD weighs I would think you could use a shipping table for that. So the number of cd's is weight/80 rounded up since if they have 84 minutes of songs, you will need two cd's. Ryan If I was crafty, this would be a funny signature.
lokksta Posted July 30, 2004 Author Posted July 30, 2004 Ryan, Thanks for your reply. I think I am going to try what you suggested. After thinking about what I need, I don't think the solution is as hard as I thought it might be. Anyway, thank you both for your help.
