RWTD Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 I have products that have "0" as a shipping weight, and others with a weight. No matter what, there is always an extra 3#'s added into the weight, whether it's 0 (i.e. 3), or 30 (i.e. 33). I can't find anywhere in the Admin panel where to change this. Can someone help point me to the right direction here, please? Thank you very much! James
RWTD Posted July 30, 2004 Author Posted July 30, 2004 Nevermind, lol, I found it. Thanks anyway! ;) James
stevel Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 For the benefit of others, this is "Tare Weight" in admin under Shiipping/Packaging. The osC install sets this to 3, for reasons unclear to me. It trips up most new users. Steve Contributions: Country-State Selector Login Page a la Amazon Protection of Configuration Updated spiders.txt Embed Links with SID in Description
Guest Posted August 3, 2004 Posted August 3, 2004 I think it was supposed to be a minimum weight if the item is less than this value. Eg. If the tare weight is set at 1kg, and if the purchased item is less than 1kg, it will still take 1kg for calculation of shipping charges. However, it should not add in another 1kg if the total weight of purchased items is >1kg. Maybe some bug?
burt Posted August 3, 2004 Posted August 3, 2004 I've always looked at "Tare Weight" as being the weight of your packing [cardboard box, bubblewrap etc]...perhaps it makes more sense like that? I always set it to zero anyway, and charge for P&P within the shipping modules anyway...
stevel Posted August 3, 2004 Posted August 3, 2004 Burt has it right - Tare Weight is a fixed packaging weight added to all orders. In practice, few stores calculate shipping this way.
