Dream Keyboards, new product, new site!

Hi there

I have a new product and website and any general feedback would be appreciated.

As the product is a bit "out there" I have been conscious of the need to produce a web site that reflects the marketing plan clearly.

If anybody has the time to reply I'd appreciate comments on the following;

- the product. This grew from some simple ideas on how to improve the appearance of a well used but often overlooked (no pun intended) device.

- how well do we identify our customers. Like most shop owners I have an idea on who would be our target market. I'm interested to know if this is evident and if it is effective,

- does the website work in terms of promoting the product to the target audience. We're looking to entice our potential customers to try something new that will provide an aesthetic or business boost.

I've read a lot about the need drive visitors to your site in these forums but I don't see much on making those visitors stay, and I'm not talking about fancy web site designing skills. A killer contribution maybe...I just wish I knew what it was (if you think there is a contrib I should use please let me know)

Thanks

hello,

first I must say I have never seen anything quite like it, and its very neat! Really wish I could come up with ideas like this....

now to the critque.

when i clicked on the american keyboard, and admired it, and looked over all the info, I was a bit lost...I was trying to find more products and such, and finally came to the conclusion that this was the only product. While im not saying that is bad, for some reason I was looking for more and got confused...Im not sure how many would have that issue, probly just me B)

the ads by google...im not sure how good of an idea that is, as the ad I saw was one offering keyboards specifically, it just seems this would take business away from you.

also maybe you would want to add more info about your company, your address, where you are located, a phone number, etc..as it is now, I dont have any way to contact you except email, which may deter a sale.

also, maybe some info on how you manufacture the keyboards, i sit here and wonder how long the colors will last? Is it durable?

now to other things, I like the intro page...I mean I actually looked at my plain boring black keyboard and all the crap in it :)

while I love the idea, In my opinion the stars & striped keyboard may bother me some, being as the colors are bright and im used to a boring keyboard ;P

anyway, I was really impressed with this idea, the site in general looks good to me and I was left feeling as though my keyboard was no longer adequate.. :( and I just spent all kinds of money on it heheh

Like the product -------in a strange sort of way. Can't imagine having one on my desk.

Actually not true. I'd quite happily pay for white key board with a big Tux image around the numeric keypad. If you make one I'll claim it :D

jeez how sad is that

But I love the in-your-face look of the S&S one

Right, onto the critique.

OK simple things first - image size!

Those small images are scrunched big images. One of the smaller images was 89k.....and it looked dreadful because it was being sized by the browser. Long download time, poor quality. Dig out an image contribution would be my advice. Try S, M, L or Ultra Pics

I think you're going funky corpy...designers, marketers, coders........can't see them in the accounts department or SysAd desk...could be wrong. If you are then lose the Comic Sans logo. Comic Sans may be the only font that has an online campaign seeking its erradication. Hope you've not had 5 years of business cards and stationery printed. If you have forget I mentioned it.

Centre aligning in infoboxes - why? Makes it hard to read, cluttered. It's consistent with the Comic Sans.......

:P

The favourites infobox doesn't work for me but I'm using Mozilla Firefox. How many of your target audience might have a preference for Mozilla, Safari or Konqueror? Does it work on IE for Mac?

finally I'd lose the stock osC cartoony graphics.

Hoep you take this in the spirit it's intended. It was only when I got to the end of the critique that I added up the crimes against geekdom.

It has an IE only feature

It use Comic Sans

It uses centre aligning

It drinks unnecessary bandwith

And when you think about those they do add up to a site that is unsympathetic to a lot of computer loving lunatics who might want to buy your keyboards.

I have to agree - awesome concept, love it! But need to make your other products more obvious. I finally found them, on the right, buried under the other informational links.

I would recommend putting your product links on the upper left side - that is where I expected to see them. But wherever you put them, you need to make them much more obvious! You've got a cool product, you just need to make it easier to buy!
