CodeCutter Posted July 29, 2004 Posted July 29, 2004 I am learning osCommerce now. I set up tax zone and tax rate for Texas (TX) state. In Texas, food items are non taxable, but other items like books are. How do you specify at the product level whether an item is taxable or not? Also, will tax be calculated automatically based on shipping location of the buyer? For.e.g. I want TX buyer to pay tax on a book, but not FL buyer. Will osCommerce do this automatically? The reason I am asking this is because the credit card processor wants the amount inclusive of tax. So for TX I will have to charge $10 + $0.63 tax = $10.63 (send $10.63 to payment gateway) and for other states I have to charge $10.00 (send $10.00 to payment gateway) -- Reality is an illusion caused due to lack of alcohol. -- We are never too old to learn something new.
Guest Posted July 29, 2004 Posted July 29, 2004 CodeCutter, The detailed information for each product includes a drop down for Tax Class. Select --none-- for the food products and Taxable Goods for everything else. If you set up the zones correctly, it will tax TX customers and no one else. Create a test account with a TX address and one with a different state and test it out to be sure. Good luck, Ed
CodeCutter Posted July 30, 2004 Author Posted July 30, 2004 Thanks Ed. I will try that as per your suggestion. -- Reality is an illusion caused due to lack of alcohol. -- We are never too old to learn something new.
