M3this Posted July 28, 2004 Posted July 28, 2004 Hey everyone ... I got the whole thing installed with out a hitch ... however I have one question..... how do you secure the admin area so others cant get in there? For example .... if you go to my sites url: http://www.mysite.com/catalog/admin/ Any one with a web browser can see the admin .... which we all know is no good.
241 Posted July 28, 2004 Posted July 28, 2004 you can use an .htaccess file this you should be able to set up using your host provider control panel to protect the directory or use a contribution such as admin access with levels as one such contribution No longer giving free advice. Please place deposit in meter slot provided. Individual: [=] SME: [==] Corporation: [===] If deposit does not fit one of the slots provided then you are asking too much! stavin Posted July 31, 2004 Posted July 31, 2004 Hmmm. I'm puzzled that you guys don't get a login prompt upon visiting your site's catalog/admin link. In my case, a login pop-up prompts me for an administrator user id and pw. If I feed it the credentials of a normal user, the pop-up reappears naggingly until I properly feed it my admin account credentials... I've nothing to complain about in that regard, except for the fact that subsequent browses to modify the site via the admin facility are carried out in non-ssl, exposed, sniff-me, kind of mode. Anyone reading this can suggest a way to secure the admin/... tree ? Thanks. Stav
