dsather Posted July 28, 2004 Posted July 28, 2004 On the cart that I just set up, my customer wants to use Quickbooks to process her orders. However, when the orders come through, there is no cc information on the Order Confirmation email that is sent. She can go to the site, and get the information there, but she would like the information to be on the email that she gets, instead of going to the web site for the card numbers. Is this possible? will2568 Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 It isn't advisable to send credit card info via email unless your web host uses encryption technology such as PGP on their servers, and your customer also has PGP installed on her computer, and knows how to use it correctly. Anyone who knows how can read any plain-text email message they want to, regardless of who the intended recipient is. Sending unencrypted email is the digital equivalent of mailing a post card. To carry the postal analogy further, when you do business with a mail-order company, you seal your order form in an envelope prior to mailing it, so nobody can get your credit card number without opening the envelope. In order to send credit card info via email, you need to "seal" it with encryption so that it will be unreadable by anyone except the intended recipient. I hope this helps you understand the importance of using encryption technology when doing business on the internet. Quote
