VAT is value added tax. The number is not necessary in the US but is legally required in the European Union.

Hth,

Matt

Always back up before making changes.

VAT or value added tax if you charge this then you need to be registered, if you do not charge this then do not show VAT and no need to register. There is a threshold in tax beyond which you are required to register in the Uk I think this is now ?64,000

No longer giving free advice. Please place deposit in meter slot provided.  Individual: [=] SME: [==] Corporation: [===]
If deposit does not fit one of the slots provided then you are asking too much! :P

Is your Osc dated try Phoenix  raising oscommerce from the ashes.

Not entirely correct - you can back register.

you may be able to back register to a certain extent which is timescaled.

are you referring to the 30 day clause.

or the upto 1 year from date of company registration for limited companies all receipted and accounted

If your shop is outside the EU then you only need to register if you are selling goods delivered by the Internet (that is downloaded software, information etc) to customers in the EU. You can register in a single scheme in this case to cover all EU countries.

If you post physical goods out to countries in the EU from outside the EU, you do not register or charge VAT. The VAT will be charged to the customer by the delivery company and collected on delivery.
