jecepede Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 Aloha !!!! Yet another post about the images. This time not how to make the thumbnails coz it seems to do that but over the speed, or rather lack of speed, of the graphics... I am trying to create a small store for my whiffy so she can sell her home made hobby. I put the site up on : Cardsuay Dot Wabbit-Wion but, it is soooooooooo ssslllooowww ???? Why what is going on ? Is there a trick to it ??? There are only 11 test articles in the DB so it should be fast right ? Other sites on the same server FLYYYYYYYYYYY as an F16.... Look for yourself : Wabbit-Wion Main Portal Thank you in advance for your kind support.... Jessy -- If you don't like my attitude, call 1-800-WHOCARES --
ryanf Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 look in the contribs section for thumbnail creators. Right now, it is taking images that are 18000 - 35000 bytes large and just shrinking them to 100x100. By having the browser do this, the images are still 35000 bytes big just smaller, thats why it take a while to load. If I was crafty, this would be a funny signature.
digi Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 umm... when I go to your site its lightning fast. and I am on cable internet. digi *Outlined in chalk everone looks the same* Currently useing OSC 2.2 MS1 running on Apache/1.3.27 (Unix) (Red-Hat/Linux) mod_jk/1.2.0 mod_perl/1.26 PHP/4.3.3 FrontPage/5.0.2 mod_ssl/2.8.12 OpenSSL/0.9.6b
ryanf Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 yeah, it was fast for me too, but if your on dialup and you don't like how slow it goes, try the thumbnail contribs. If I was crafty, this would be a funny signature.
jecepede Posted July 23, 2004 Author Posted July 23, 2004 Aloha ! Tanks for the reactions folks but unfortunate it doest really help. ryanf -> I have site with pictures far bigger then 30K and they load with great spead. Just look at Wet T Dot Wabbit-Wion. These pics are 200+ Kb and the come faster then the 30K here ? digi -> I tested this at my 100Mb line at the offce. The web-server is in the same network. digi -> Thumbnail contribs ????? Wo wo, you mean this OS-commy-thing generates thumbnales : on the fly  THAT is prehistoric ! What can I do, can you recommend me one ??? Thanks again !!!!! Many greets and good sales, Jessy -- If you don't like my attitude, call 1-800-WHOCARES --

Consider compressing your textual content (XHTML, JavaScript, etc.) with mod_gzip or similar products. * CSS alternate stylesheets may be referenced in the HTML but are not actually downloaded until they are needed and are therefore not included in the total page size. Analysis and Recommendations TOTAL_OBJECTS - Warning! The total number of objects on this page is 20 - consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Combine, refine, and optimize your external objects. Replace graphic rollovers with CSS rollovers to speed display and minimize HTTP requests. TOTAL_IMAGES - Warning! The total number of images on this page is 18 , consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Combine, refine, and optimize your graphics. Replace graphic rollovers with CSS rollovers to speed display and minimize HTTP requests. TOTAL_CSS - Congratulations, the total number of external CSS files on this page is 1 . Because external CSS files must be in the HEAD of your HTML document, they must load first before any BODY content displays. Although they are cached, CSS files slow down the initial display of your page. TOTAL_SIZE - Warning! The total size of this page is 217038 bytes, which will load in 43.46 seconds on a 56Kbps modem. Consider reducing total page size to less than 30K to achieve sub eight second response times on 56K connections. Pages over 100K exceed most attention thresholds at 56Kbps, even with feedback. HTML_SIZE - Caution. The total size of this HTML file is 21026 bytes, which is above 20K but below 100K. With a 10K ad and a logo this means that your page will load in over 8.6 seconds. Consider optimizing your HTML and eliminating unnecessary features. To give your users feedback, consider layering your page or using positioning to display useful content within the first two seconds. IMAGES_SIZE - Warning! The total size of your images is 190153 bytes, which is over 30K. Consider optimizing your images for size, combining them, and replacing graphic rollovers with CSS. CSS_SIZE - Caution. The total size of your external CSS is 5859 bytes, which is above 1160 bytes and less than 8K. For external files, try to keep them less than 1160 bytes to fit within one higher-speed TCP-IP packet (or an approximate multiple thereof). Consider optimizing your CSS and eliminating features to reduce this to a more reasonable size.
