Basicly I was wondering how they got rid of the box that surrounds all the categories and made them show up ontop of the nice graphic boxes.

This would be of great help to me and many others as this is truly a awsome oscommerce site.

It looks like they used CSS to create bg for the categories. They also modded it so it would output as a bulleted list and as you can see, used bullet images instead of standard bullets. No quick and easy answer for you here. heh Maybe you should look into using one of the template systems (STS or BTS) as it looks like that's what they did.
