Nomad Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 hi, new user and a bit lost.. having a lot of chmod (directory write errors) ...so I went over to the knowledge base. Yipes! lot of stuff in there so I can see I have a lot of reading to do  lol. As I'm on dial-up and an accumalative charge at that, I was wondering if there's a .zip version available for download? I could study it locally then and save valuble uptime. Nice bit of software I may add, now just got to figure it all out  Nomad - trybalink.net btw - just a thing I noticed on the navigation in the Knowledge base? hope I'm not being rude but the only way to navigate back into the main support area is via the sitemap link at the bottom or by using the back-button, was a bit awkward for a new user otherwise excellent job
Guest Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 your best bet is to download oscommerce to your system, as well as search for and download phpdev, which will setup apache, mysql and php on your local system. then you can play with osc to your hearts delite, making it do what you want without having be online. once y ou are ready then upload to your web site and away you go
241 Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 as an alternative there is easyphp which is as the name suggests easy to install. I beleive that the plan is to have the knowledge base made avaailable in a download format but best to contact a team member on that point. No longer giving free advice. Please place deposit in meter slot provided. Individual: [=] SME: [==] Corporation: [===] If deposit does not fit one of the slots provided then you are asking too much! Is your Osc dated try Phoenix raising oscommerce from the ashes.
Nomad Posted July 22, 2004 Author Posted July 22, 2004 thanks guy's. I have Apahce/MySQL/PHP/phpmyadmin (The better option in php administration system I think. I got used to it quite quickly as opposed to phpnuke-Wha? ). Just got the fix the mess I made of the modules the other week ...messing again - some will know how it is lol... I looked about in the support documents and couldn't find the chmod list as to say what files need to be writable etc. certain one's are 777 other's 755, 766 ? if I had that, that should sort the folder write error's out I would assume? I did find some but is there a full chmod key list for the folder structures? or are there to many variables to allow for this? Thats my main problem at the moment, I keep getting "error'some folder' is not writable" Would be great if that support was packaged in a .zip though.... Thanks,
Nomad Posted July 22, 2004 Author Posted July 22, 2004 crikey! This is a busy place .... Anyway fixed those error messages now I'm having simple problems i supposewith the header? for some reason it won't change to the one I want..you don't make it easy do you <_< wanders of to that knowledge base for the umpteenth time tonight...looks like I'm gonna be spending some time there... btw yes you guessed hopeless noobie with this thing... Thanks for the help anyway guy's Appreciate it :)
Guest Posted July 22, 2004 Posted July 22, 2004 in header php change oscommece.gif to what you named your header and if I recall in the same file rename 480 X60 ? to 480 X 50 it is a name not a size-it was near the bottom BOL Rolf
Nomad Posted July 24, 2004 Author Posted July 24, 2004 hmm I found what you meant and also managed to edit the layout ..slightly...figured out the style sheet bit ..sort of but still can't get the header working properly.. Just dropped by to say thanks for the pointer :) *wanders of back to yon knowledge base chappy*...
