Guest Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 Florida department of Revenue requires that we charge the appropriate tax rate for the county in which the buyer resides. Several counties in FL have an additional local tax that changes the tax rate. Is there a module for counties / cities? If not, how do I add zones for each city in Florida? Thanks!!
Guest Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 where did you get that info from? i have a site based in florida and we are only required to collect tax at our local rate where we are shipping from, not where we are shipping to.
Guest Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 Our corporate attorney just talked to a rep with Dept of Revenue today and was told that we must collect according to the rate in the county in which the buyer resides, even if our location is in a county without a surcharge. If it were my personal store I'd probably just play ignorant but unfortunately I can't in this instance - I'm gonna have to find a way to make this work. :( Does anyone know how these zones work? Is the zone entry the same as the 'state' variable?
Miguel863 Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 Same Question...and I too am going to have to make this work. And yes I found the same thing, that we must charge taxes to where the buyer lives in your state. But I am from NY State and NY has the same hundred odd counties to input there rates. has anyone found how to do this? New York zone, and then counties within the zones? Thanks for your help

Ditto. There's nowhere on the forms that you can even break down the counties. Guest Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 Ha! Someone has already solved this problem with a mod and I just wasn't looking in the right place :) http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,2046
CMoebius Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 I did not know that I had to charge sales tax based on the county in which the customer resides. I just downloaded this contribution since my store is in Florida. I read the README.TXT file and it states the following: Use phpMyAdmin or mysql at the command line to import the following sql files: exported-sql/tax_class.sql exported-sql/zones.sql exported-sql/geo_zones.sql exported-sql/tax_rates.sql exported-sql/zones_to_geo_zones.sql The zip file I downloaded does not have tax_class.sql in the exported-sql folder. There is one in the generated-sql folder. I just need to know what files I need to import into my database. Thanks in advance.
