Hi,

question form a fresh bright newbie! How much technical ability do I need to install and run oscommerce? I have no programming experience and I would like some guidance on installing the software in an XP Pro platform.I want to build my site on my laptop before i upload it to my hosting ISP. Is this possible, is it wise , am I trying to achieve the impossible? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Certanly you need at least some experience but not need to be the most experiemted programmer, the installation is not s hard, in fact before you decompresse the oscommerce file, can explore and read the instal file, there is all so clear that even me could undestand :D , but you will need to install a web server in your computer, like the one it is on XP by default so you be able to see the files and the pages before you upload them on the web, just take it easy and you will be able to do it ..............good luck

If you want to run osC on your local computer you will need to install some things that do not come with xp. The easiest way to do this is install easyphp as that will give you everything you need. Go HERE for install instructions

The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing.

Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems?

There are many very useful osC Contributions

Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here

BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??
