Miguel863 Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 Has anyone researched this more thoroughly. I was putting in my rates and reading up on my tax laws and then it hit me how complicated it would be to charge anyone out of my state taxes for sales. Then I bumped into the "Internet Tax Freedom Act", which states that you can charge only taxes to those order with address from your state where your store is located in. So I am racking my brain for nothing. Anyone find any other info on this, I know Amazon.com does not charge taxes but only to customers from their state their stores are at. Check your bills folks, I did. Any one have any other info about this act. Or how is everyone putting in tax rates or charging customers taxes from various situations. Very curious. Please post soon, I am going live in a few weeks and I would love to be sure I am charging my customers taxes properly, plus giving them great products. Thanks. http://ecommerce.internet.com/news/news/ar...80441%2C00.html http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/news/a...l_8276781.shtml http://www.internetnews.com/ec-news/articl...p/10793_1490131 http://www.gseis.ucla.edu/iclp/itfa.htm (The complete Act description)
808smokey Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 I don't charge any tax unless the customer lives in my state, where the company is.
Guest Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 standard practice is to charge only for your own state/county, if you charge for other states then you have to setup accounts with them and then they tax you on your business there too. best bet, dont even think of charging taxes for other than your own area, else the federalies will come get ya!
