How difficult to strip down to checkout only?

I just need a bare-bones checkout system--one where I send an item and quantity to the cart, and it presents the customer with fields for checkout (billing/shipping), etc., and finally ties into my payment processor and gives a confirmation.

 

I don't need any of the other catalog-oriented functions, sidebars, etc. Just the bare basics.

 

Would it be a nightmare to strip those all away?

 

Any docs or sites out there that you can point to that might make this easier?

easy as pie.

 

all you have to do is edit the header footer and take out the side columns.
