Changing width of left col;umn and center column

I got rid of column-right and updated the index.php file, so that's all good. But not my column_left is too narrow for me-I want to widen it a bit so I can make font size a bit larger. And my center column still is justifying left, I want it to center on the remiander of the page not occupied by column_left;

 

How do I go about these steps and on what files for each step I should do???

Now if I can only figure out how to make the column_ right completely dissapear so I have a two-column page. I deleted the column_right.php, and edited all of the php files I beleive it would have been mentioned in but my middle of page content is still left justified.

 

I'm dying here folks :)
