trying to get images to be seen

Hi- I am a newbie in need of image help,

I'm still having trouble seeing images on my products pages for those images. I even tried assigning an image that is in use in other parts of the cart, but still no luck. When I do the update with the image I get the following error message:

 

Error: Catalog images directory is not writeable: /home/virtual/site4/fst/var/www/html/oscommerce/images/

 

Can anyone help me with this-what do I need to set somewhere, is there a php file you want me to put here so you can assist me- just let me know what I need to do to get some help and I'm on it!!!

 

Is it best I use GIF or JPEG, and if JPEG should the extension be JPG or JPEG?

 

I've even edited them down to being 100x100 to meet what settings I put on them in the store.

per the knowledge base, which i suggest you read from top to bottom, you need to make the properties on your images directory writeable, actually they need properties of 777, which can be done via your ftp program.

Thanks John, worked fine for me. Now if I can only figure out how to make the column_ right completely dissapear so I have a two-column page. I erased the column_right.php, and edited all of the php files I beleive it would have been mentioned in but my middle of page content is still left justified.

 

I did check out knoweldge base and it showed me what to take out, but still no fix in site :(
