E-Commerce in VA

We are hoping to start our e-commerce business in Virginia, USA. We are seeking your advices on what secure payment system to use.

We know that VeriSign is a very good option. However, their price is not very reasonable. We are hoping to do about 150 transactions per month.

Any advice on this would be really appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

I would not say Verisign is a "very good option". Personally, I avoid doing business with them wherever possible.

There are many payment gateways available for use with osCommerce. authorize.net is a popular choice - there are others as listed at http://www.oscommerce.com/about/gateways If you find one of those you like, do a search in this forum for the gateway name and see what issues people have with them.

I don't have personal experience with any of the payment gateways.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

How much does it cost to setup the merchant account at authorize.net? How much do they charge for each transaction?

I went to their website. They do not actually provide the services directly. You get the secured payment service from one of their affiliates.

Looking forward to hearing your advices.

Thanks again for the assistance.

You have to go through one of Authorize.net's resellers. This is the one I used, and they have no application or annual fee... you have to have $25 a month minimum in sales, and the rate is 2.29%.

Don't know if this suits you, but I will PM the URL so you can take a look. I have no connection to this company, other than that I am a client.
