Creating a new home page

I am new to osCommerce and I was wondering if the following is possible.

 

I would like to create a home page to my webstore. This home page would have the usual write-up etc. I need the following section to extract information from osCommerce.

 

1. I will have a navigation menu. This navigation menu will have the same product category as osCommerce eg widget A, widget B, widget, C etc. When the user click on the menu item, it will bring the user to osCommerce, opening up the selected category. Is this possible and what would be the best way to do this?

 

2. I would also like to have a section that diisplay, latest item in my store. displaying item name and price. I would limit this to 4 entries. Similary, when the click on the images, the system will bring users to the new product detail screen in osCommerce. Is this possible and what would be the best way to do this?
