Guest Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 I need some help coming up with a new layout. I've been looking at some of the other posted sites and they've been looking great. I think I've gone over the newbie stage in osCommerce as far as the behind the scenes aspect of the open source is concerned. I'm bored with the layout of the site. I've installed quite a number of contributions, I can think of about 8 or 9 off the top of my head. But it looks boring. Anything at all would be much help. rudy
Jack_mcs Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 The background image you are using overwhelms the site. My eyes kept being drawn to it. You should remove it or at least fade it out so that it doesn't become the main focus of the page. You might want to instlall the Shawdow Box contribution Jack Support Links: For Hire: Contact me for anything you need help with for your shop: upgrading, hosting, repairs, code written, etc. All of My Addons Get the latest versions of my addons Recommended SEO Addons
julianpuje Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 Have to agree that the background image is overwhelming, i'd get rid of it all together, it's looks too busy and you can't tell what it is anyway. The pinky/beige colour is not very nice, and not very appealing. I don't like the two tone blue/grey headers, and i think they are a bit too small. At first glance at the home page, i didn't know what you sold or offered. It's not clear until you study the images when you scroll down that you are something to do with car parts. I'm still not too sure. It looks like theres something missing where the phone number is at the top, maybe make this a bit more informative, like with an image & phone number etc etc. Only ideas anyway, good luck getting it the way you want. A little knowledge is dangerous, I SHOULD KNOW. If Life Begins At 40, What ends????

Guest Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 What would you suggest. At the time, that was the best I can come up with? Rudy
Jack_mcs Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 I know how it is when you can't come up with an idea. This is by no means usable but it may give you an idea. An image of a vehicle of some sort would probably be better. Guest Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 I added the shadow box on my test site, it looks good. I'll be adding it to the main site shortly. If I was to use the STS contribution, would I still have use of some of my non-osc add-ons, eg... my photo gallery and links page? Rudy
Jack_mcs Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 Yes, you can add whatever pages you want as long as you properly create the pages. How you are managing links? The Link Manager contribution is quite good for this. spayce_girl Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 Yes, you can still use your other contributions if you install STS. STS just handles placement of segments of the layout such as the boxes, breadcrumb, logo, etc.
HyperJack Posted July 27, 2004 Posted July 27, 2004 I didn't see it before today. But your site could use a few minor tweeks. First, don't let OSC resize your images. Maintain two sets. One thumbnail size and one enlarged set. Feature more pictures of the cars for which the parts are intended. The black font in the NAVBAR is difficult to read. And remember, design is only a small piece of what makes a successful site. MARKETING_MARKETING_MARKETING & USABILTY!
Guest Posted July 28, 2004 Posted July 28, 2004 Thanks Jack, you are right about that. Marketing is definitely number one. I really just want the site to be user friendly and not offensive to the user while shopping. Give me an example of what you meant about resizing the images. Flip, I'm open to ideas. Email me if you'd like. Rudy
