Jack_mcs
I'm about to switch hosts and I am wondering about copying over the databases. Let's say I put in a request to switch nameservers today but the change doesn't propagate until tomorrow. If I copy over my database tonight, and an order comes in after that, but before the switch takes place, my databases are now out of sync. Now, if I don't see this in time and I get an order on my new host, I cannot just copy the previous order into the new database since there will be conflicting order numbers. Is there a way around this or is it jsut a matter of taking a chance? The_ancient
there are a few options 1> Set up the New Host, Close your Store down at the old host for a few hours probally off peak time. Move the Database Put in a Redirect at the old host that will send all vistors to the new IP address of your Host, you can even mask that with a Frame.. then you only have a few hours down time and no order or dbase problems Best Solution 2> Set up the New Host, At the new host put a tempory index page that read "site down for routine mantiance" once the progation takes effect Move the Database... The problem with that is no one will progate as the same speed so you can still have Dbase problems

But it could happen anywhere between 1 - 3 days. Moving the database isn't a problem. I can do that in just a few minutes. It is the timing that causes the problem.
