osCommerce

The e-commerce.

Set-up question from a new guy....

This looks to be like a great commerce tool and we have started to config to our requirements.

In the online help and in one post I have found - the info collected when a customer logs in is set in the CUSTOMER DETAILS section. From the online docs the menu contains:

********************

Configuration Section

My Store

Minimum Values

Maximum Values

Images

Customer Details

Shipping/Packaging

Product Listing

Stock

Logging

Cache

Email Options

Download

GZIP Compression

Sessions

********************

After install (by web provider) in the config section only the following files are listed:

Configuration

My Store

Minimum Values

Maximum Values

Images

Shipping/Packaging

Product Listing

Stock

Logging

Cache

E-Mail Options

Download

It seems that 3 items are missing - Customer Details, GZIP Compression, and Sessions.

Not sure what Gzip or Sessions do yet... havn't got that far... but with the Customer Details missing - we have no control over the info that is collected from customers - it looks like the site is using the program default info. Is this something I deleted somehow?? Was not installed (i've un-installed & reinstalled & still gives the same options)?? or something that needs to be added??

Any help is appreciated -

Mike

what version of osc are you installing?

and is it you installing or is it still the ip?

if it is the ip (internet provider) try installing it to

a local host on you very own pc chances are if

it works ok there its got some thing to do with the way it is installed or

the setings at the server.

what version of osc are you installing?

Web host shows it as OSCommerce 2.2MS

and is it you installing or is it still the ip?

It is a script provided by the web host - I designate the directory - select admin name & PW - complete install is automatic.

if it is the ip (internet provider) try installing it to

a local host on you very own pc

It doesn't look like I can do a local install as the domain info is un-editable by default - it fills in

www.yourdomainname.com/_____________

and you just fill in a name for the OSC directory.

Do you think it is possible to download a version to install local - then upload the missing sections?? Or would that screw it up worse!!

Thanks for the response!!

I'm stuck with the same problem. I don't want to force my customers to enter their birthdate, gender and have installed 2.2 from my ISP.

I downloaded OSC in the zip format from here and sure would be interested in knowing what files are safe to overwrite on my website to add the functionality.
