Guest
As my title says I can't seem to make my backup facility in the admin section work. Ive tested it and retested it both locally and on my site using the front page text, I save the back up which it does without problems, I then alter some code and restore to the last back up file and it makes no difference? The .sql file does exist in my backups folder in Admin so what could I be overlooking/doing wrong - anyone please? Sean
Guest
what do you mean by backup facility? could you give a bit more detail, as what you have described is not normally written this way. what are the errors you are getting and what is it you are trying to do? the only backup in the admin section is named database backup, once you click on it, it will give you a few options for backing up the database. what code are you altering after backing up and then restoring? are you changing anything relating to the database? if you are only changing code you should not have to restore the database. Guest
Hi Mibble, Ok what I'm refereing to is the Database Backup Manager. A simple example would be: I alter the text in catalog]/includes/languages/english/index.php, then I test the back up facility by using restore to take me back to an earlier backup (.sql file) and it doesn't restore me to before the alteration took place? - this is one example and I have made bigger and boder alterations all without being able to successfully restore - it's not holding me back too much but it would be nice if I could work it properly. Am I missing something here, I believe I'm doing everything right. ;) Thank you. Sean
Guest
The backup facility is most likely working perfectly. When you create a backup, it backs up the contents of your database and NOT the files on your site. When you edit a file in the languages folder for example, it has nothing at all to do with the contents of the database. Please let me know if I have misunderstood what you are trying to do.
