Change category layout

Hello,

 

I'm not sure how best to describe this, but when you click a category to the left, in the center of the page, it repeats the category, following by "new for this month", so you have the option of continuing to click the left bar for further subs, or the category tags laid out in the middle of the page.

 

If I want to get rid of the category tags in the middle of the page, and just use the left bar, what file do i need to alter, I've tried several and can't seem to find it.

 

An example would be:

 

http://www.vsauctions.com/index.php/cPath/1

 

I don't want the following to appear above the New Products for July:

 

30 - 32 34 36

 

38 and up

BACK UP FIRST!

 

The section that displays this info is in catalog/index.php from about line 80 to line 109.

 

I commented out that entire range and ran a few pages - it appears to eliminate what you desired without any other ill effects. Leave the opening php tag on line 79 and start commenting out at line 80, then continue commenting down to the line that says

// needed for the new products module shown below

That removed the sub cat's from the main page but the page is now blank, which piece of code will remove the actual link from the categories menu (obviously not the sub-cat's just top level).

I'm not sure what you're trying to do. What I posted above was in answer to removing the categories listing that shows in the main part of the page. If one removes the category picture (and title) and the listing, that will indeed leave the main part of the page empty except for the new items box.

 

If you are trying to remove the link for the category that you happen to be in from the categories box in the left column, I don't know how to do that and am curious why one would want to.

Hi mugitty,

 

The reason I want the top level category link removed is because all my categories have sub-categories and I only want the sub-categories to have clickable links.

 

I want to remove the unnecessary extra links so that the customer will click the sub-category link and go straight to the product listing page.

 

Has anyone done this or would know how to do it?
