Contrib - ADMIN Auth 2.2 Can't Get to work

I have tried for the last 24 hours to make the contribution below work.

Admin Authentication for 2.2 http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,687/page,2

The contribution is a text document asking you to create authen.php and that is easy...... then it tells you to add a require string to the application_top.php....this is also very easy....and finally it askes you to add the define string to the configure.php to set the username and password.

Once I do this....the result is the POP-UP login window comes up and I attempt to enter a username and password. IT NEVER ACCEPTS ANYTHING. Why?

This seems simple but I have proven it is not. Obviously I am missing something because the authen.php is comparing the input against something and it is obviously not what I set as the user and password in the configure.php.

So where did I go wrong.... do the variables need to be setup in sql datafile?

Do I need to make an htaccess file or an htpsword file?

It's ironic that I flew through the install process of oscommerce and got the entire store setup and running in less than a day with "0" problems and now the admin password auth contribution is KICKING MY A**.

Help !

I've got the same problem...

the thing is so simple I can't imagine what could be wrong.

I'm using 2/2.2 with the register_globals fix ... but the code for admin_auth doesn't seem to have anything to do with any global functions.

any help would sure be appreciated.

Randy.
