Merchant Accounts?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am looking to accept credit card payments on my site. My host can provide me with an SSL connection (at extra cost) and i am looking for a cheap method of accepting credit cards. I alread have accounts with paypal and nochex.

so my question is 1) how does every one else do it, and 2) what is the cheapest/best company for accepting credit cards?

Cheers

James

I use Quickbooks merchant account. I can process credit cards right from QuickBooks and it's inexepensive compared to having a gateway and such. MYOB also has a similar setup.

No, there is not a gateway for QuickBooks Merchant Account. You need to process the credit cards offline. osCommerce will capture the credit card information, then you add it into QuickBooks to process.

Yes, there is a monthly fee, not sure what it is but it is less than $20. There is no gateway charge or batch upload fees. Beware when you are shopping for a merchant account, they will hit you with so many charges it'll leave your head spinning.

The typical fees are:

Statement fee (Visa/MC): $10/month

Statement fee (AMEX): $5/month

Discover Account Setup: $25 - one time, no monthly fees

Transaction charge (discount rate): 2.3% of your charge

Transaction fee: $0.25 per transaction

Gateway Charge: $20/month - optional

Gateway transaction charge: $?? (my first one charged another $0.30 per transaction here, but I think most reputable merchants don't).

Batch upload charge: $0.30 (typically once a day when you upload from your gateway).

With QuickBooks I don't have a gateway, thus saving on all charges from the gateway down (monthly, transation, and batch).

As they said on the x-files; Trust No-One!

good luck :)

I wonder now that Quick Books is using Inovative Merchant Solutions that the two accounts could be connected?

I use QB online and really like the credit card processing, its just not real time for an online strore.
