Very newbie

Hi everybody, I'm new to this PHP stuff. I try to install oscommerce on my server and receive a error message. "The configuration files do not exist, or permission levels are not set." something about chmod 706 configure.php. If chmod 706 does not work, please try chmod 777. I try changing permission on the public_html/catalog/includes/configure.php but that doesn't work. I try to rename the file and and retry but that doesn't work. Can anybody help me?

Hi,

If you are sure the file configure.php DOES exist, and also if you have tried different CMOD's, and it still won't work, try looking in /application_top.php, it includes 'configure.php', and the path is relative.

There is some code just before it is included, see:

// Set the local configuration parameters - mainly for developers
 if (file_exists('includes/local/configure.php')) include('includes/local/configure.php');

// include server parameters
 require('includes/configure.php');

so check if there is a file in /includes/local , called configure.php ??

Hey, peterr. There is no file in the "catalog/includes/local" call configure.php. When I downloaded the oscommerce I upload the file manually from my computer to my server. In the local folder there are two file (.cvsignore and readme). I upload both file to my server but only the readme show up. I look in application_top.php and the code look just like the one you show me.

I uploaded the file configure.php into the "catalog/includes/local/" and try to install again and it's give me the same error. I'm very new at this. thank you for your hlep. :unsure:

Hi,

The reason you can't see any files beginning with a period would simply be your FTP client settings, or the actual server config ??

Can you please remove the file from /local/configure.php , it shouldn't actually be there for an install.

Read up on these:

http://www.oscommerce.info/kb/osCommerce/I...ling_osCommerce

http://www.oscommerce.info/kb/osCommerce/Common_Problems/20

A CMOD on /includes/configure.php (there is one in admin as well) of 644 should be ample, but just to get the install done, make it 777

The error message look like "Figure 12. Example of a problem encountered". I deleted the configure.php from local folder as you suggested and change includes/configure.php and admin/configuration.php chmod 777. I try to reinstall again, still the same. I also when into both of the website you provided and read on for solution. I can't find any. You think there might be something wrong with my server configuration? Do I have to make a new database? I use the one that already existed on my database server and the first step of oscommerce import database when throght as sucessful. What could be the factor that cause this problem ?

My computer is running window xp. I don't know about my web server. I bought my web hosting from ipowerweb and I'm trying to install oscommer onto the server so I can run my online e-store. I try renaming it to konfigure.php awhile back and still don't work. thank you for answering my question.
