My site is online since 3:00 pm ET today...

It has been a long journey of reading (since I am a webdesign newbie) and testing, but it is finally done.

Feel free to have a go and find bugs and problems or make comments on the design.

Thanks all for your contributions. It's great to be part of this community.

Hi....

Your site loads a little slow, probably because of the pictures....i would sugest to add a picture thumbnail reziser to your site for improved load time.

For example this one: http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,2226

Thanks a lot, I will look into that.

It is true that the pics slow it down heavily. I could have thought about it...

Thanks again

Hi

congrats on getting your shop live - I know it can be a long journey.

Just my two bits, I think that the standard oscommerce graphics are a bit harsh for your store type, selling roses and gift lines - the very 'computer generated images' in Sections like - Write a review and Notification - notify me of updates, and the 'little guy' on the front page title sitting at the desk.

My suggestion is maybe find something a bit softer - like the one you have put in New Products - or get rid of them all together.

Great job though and good luck!

regards,

Maria

When I click on a picture to enlarge it, it enlarges so big that I can't see the bottom half of the picture, and there's no way to resize it to fit. I think your large pictures need to be made smaller so that they fit on the screen.

Thanks you guys for the great advice :

- the gifs : I thought about it before and changed some with one of the contributions, but the other ones did not really fit either. So taking them away altogether does not seem that stupid, you are right !

- the enlarged pics : again, I was aware in the beginning, but just for some. I might have missed a couple. Will change that as well asap. Thanks for reminding me !

I will not forget to pay you a visit too !

Thanks again

Ok, resized the images that did not fit the screen.

If anyone still sees the same problem, I might still need resizing. Feel free to point it out

Thanks again

Now that my site is operational and more or less the way I wanted it (thanks for pointing out some weaknesses btw...), I need some tips on creating traffic.

Does anyone have some good links for reading material on generating traffic and attracting customers ?

I have submitted to a ton of search engines, but most of them have not included yet.

Plus : my budget is absolutely ridiculously low, so no way to make advertisment etc.

Posting on forums is probably considered spam ?

What about Ebay : open an Ebay store and generate traffic that way ?

Any great ideas by those who have been successful out there ?

Thanks

WW
