Cookie or Sessions in URL?

Recommended Posts

I've been trying to decide whether to put my site live with cookies or using session id in the url.

Cookies are causing me a problem with user tracking (in particular registering url refferer to the session) other than that they work fine.

Everything, inc the user tracking working fine with session ids in url.

What are peoples feelings towards the two methods? I may well plump for session ids in the url.

Also if you have force cookies set to false does it always use session ids in the url or only when it can't use cookies (ie user disabled browser). Asking since during testing I've noticed session id disapear from the URL. Which spooks me a bit!

Thanks in advance,

ps. i'd have done a poll but dont seem to be able to in this forum?

If you have force cookies set to false, it will use cookies anyway if the browser allows it. The disappearing SID is the sign of that.

Actually it look like only sometimes the SID dissapears even though I always have cookies enabled in my browser?
