oakhill Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 Hi, I have just about got my site ready to go live and would love to get some comments on what you guys think of it! I am having trouble with the best seller contribution slowing the site down quite a bit - has anyone else experienced this? Everything else seems to be ok but please let me know if something has gone awry! The link to my site is www.oakhillnailspa.com.au/catalog/index.php Thanks for your time! I have really enjoyed putting this site together - oscommerce is fantastic!
phooey04 Posted July 3, 2004 Posted July 3, 2004 Site Link: oakhillnailspa.com Something is definately slowing down your page load times and the Best Sellers box is a likely culprit. Maybe try reducing the number of items in the box? You've done some nice customizations to the site such as the info pages and express checkout. These make your site shopper friendly. I think you can make some improvements in aesthetics however. The green you are using for your table color is clashing with the linked text. Either use a darker green or go with darker text for the infobox labels. Also I think your shoppers would appreciate larger thumbnail pictures. Some products like this one are very tiny. Thanks for sharing, Jay
oakhill Posted July 3, 2004 Author Posted July 3, 2004 Thanks for your suggestions - Have had a play round with the colours - let me know if using the darker green works!
Guest Posted July 3, 2004 Posted July 3, 2004 Hi, Light green colour is too "excited". Words on table headers become not showing apparently. My operating system colour depth is 24 bit! Ccy My home: http://www.ccyjchk.com/
phooey04 Posted July 3, 2004 Posted July 3, 2004 Sarah, The green you are using [#b3ff66] not only clashes with the table heading, but it is also not color safe. Try substituting your stylesheet with this one and see what you think. Be sure to make a backup of your current stylesheet first.
oakhill Posted July 6, 2004 Author Posted July 6, 2004 Hi all, thanks for the advice - have just updated the colour with one that is "websafe". I realised that there is a big difference between how my laptop was showing the colours and how my desktop portrayed the same colours. See what you think.... I have had to disable the bestseller contribution as it really made the site run too slow - will need to work on that one.. Thanks again!
mikkomu Posted July 6, 2004 Posted July 6, 2004 Nice looking site. :) I'm new to osCommerce and looking ways to secure my admin site. You seem to have nice authentication and I'm just wondering how it is done?
oakhill Posted July 10, 2004 Author Posted July 10, 2004 Hi mikkomu I am not sure what you mean about securing admin site...I have SSL working for the account and payment processes. Hi everyone.. I am about to bring the site up live so any further comments would be appreciated before I unveil to the wide world!! I have another play round with the colours - hopefully it is looking better. The best seller contribution is still causing problems in the loading time - slows it down heaps - so have it disabled at the moment which is a shame as its a good mod! Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks again for the support - I am really enjoying being part of the "oscommerce" community!
oakhill Posted July 12, 2004 Author Posted July 12, 2004 Just let everyone know that my site is now live - Fingers now crossed that all works as it should! Thanks to all that helped - Couldn't have done it without you! Oakhill Nail Spa
oakhill Posted July 21, 2004 Author Posted July 21, 2004 Just an update on my site - am now live and seems to be going well. Added the Newsletter contribution the other day and that has worked well. Have already been indexed by Google which is fantastic but other search engines haven't been through yet and are still showing old site. Has anyone else changed from a HTML based site to a php site (same domain)? I am not quite sure how and when to pull the old site off as it is indexed quite well in some search engines. Google has already dropped most of the old pages. Any advice would be appreciated.. Have had fun with the categories description contribution and the category metatags contribution. For some reason cannot get them to work together so have worked out a solution - use the descriptions categories.php to enter that info then swap it for the metatags categories.php and enter that info. Messy but works. Also have had to leave the Bestsellers box off the site because everytime I put a product in it, and it appears in the right hand side column, my site slows down heaps. Even when there is only one product in there....not sure if anyone else has experienced this has I have not found any references in the forum. I really want to get it working but can't afford to have the site so slow. Anyway, please have another look round my site and see what you think. Is it user friendly and does the layout work? Please note...the site is live and working..so if you need any beauty products....
