AJRYAN Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 I would be much obliged for any critique people can give my live site. When responding, please let me know what your screen resolution is if it is appropriate to the criticism. I have a (much) lower conversion rate than my previous site (which did not have a shopping cart nor anywhere near as much information but looked very nice). So I need your help in figuring out exactly what might be wrong. I am horrible with design, and it probably needs a major face lift. I am thinking of eliminating the right boxes altogether and using buttons at the top for those items. Still trying to figure out how to eliminate those pesky corner graphics in the box headings without Internet Explorer putting x's there. Anyhow, the site is at http://discount-pool-supplies.com THIS IS A LIVE SITE SO DO NOT ADVANCE BEYONE THE REVIEW/EDIT ORDER STAGE!!! Thanks in advance! art
phooey04 Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 Not bad Art. There are some design inconsistencies, but overall the site is very usable and not unpleasant to look at. I also like the way you've added similar products to the bottom of your product info pages. There are some things you can do however to improve the usability of your site. The first is to narrow down your left and right column infoboxes (see picture). They really distract from the product infomation. Secondly, move the Manufacturer and Search box below your Categories box. Most shoppers shop by category because they are not sure who the manufacturer is or how to spell the product name. Finally, to take advantage of the browser's width, set your table widths to 100%. Notice the white space on the right side of this 1024x768 screenshot? Good luck with the business. Hope your conversion rate increases (as do we all)! Jay
AJRYAN Posted July 2, 2004 Author Posted July 2, 2004 Hi Jay: Thanks for your input. I agree about the box order so I changed it. I've also made a bit of a change to the header - I don't know how well it works but it looks OK. Anyhow, thanks again! Art
AJRYAN Posted July 3, 2004 Author Posted July 3, 2004 Come on everyone - my site can't be so good that no criticisms beyond Jay's are needed. I wish :) Please - all criticism, good and bad, is welcome and encouraged. To borrow a phrase by GB - bring it on!. I am desperately trying to up my pitiful conversion rate, and your input will no doubt help and will be gratefully appreciated. Thanks. Art
