yannou Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 I'dl like to add a language to OS Commerce catalog, how do I do that?
soccercheese Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 There is an article in the Knowledge Base http://www.oscommerce.info/kb/osCommerce/A...ocalization/163
yannou Posted July 1, 2004 Author Posted July 1, 2004 There is an article in the Knowledge Base http://www.oscommerce.info/kb/osCommerce/A...ocalization/163 That's what I've noticed, I've just seen that there is tons of 'how tos' and downloadable files in the Contribution section, I'm sorry. I'm working nearly 18h a day in front of my comp those last weeks... I've downloaded the language packs that I need, but there is no instruction file, there is : LICENSE, README files with no file extension, a zones_french.sql file, and a catalog folder with an admin and include folders and advanced_search.php file. So, according to the article I need to upload the include folder to osCommerce/includes/languages/ and the admin folder to osCommerce/admin/includes/languages/. But what about the .sql and .php files?
yannou Posted July 2, 2004 Author Posted July 2, 2004 Ok, now I'm really getting @*!?. After installing the french language (no installation instructions was provided with the pack, so I followed the Knowledge Base's article) and failed to make oscommerce find the logo, and then choosed the french language in the admin interface language display to test if the installation worked, I get again error messages and both admin and catalogue interfaces are unaccessible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't want to uninstall and reinstall oscommerce again! Is there a way to fix that situation?
FlyingMonkey Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 hmm... did you accidentally copy the code files into the language folder? like index.php from catalog into the langauge/index.php? Most likely your question has been answered, please do a search first.
yannou Posted July 2, 2004 Author Posted July 2, 2004 hmm... did you accidentally copy the code files into the language folder? like index.php from catalog into the langauge/index.php? I followed the article and uploaded the files that were on admin and include folders and subfolders. I don't think I've copied the index.php from catalog to language.
peterr Posted July 3, 2004 Posted July 3, 2004 Hi, After installing the french language (no installation instructions was provided with the pack, so I followed the Knowledge Base's article) and failed to make oscommerce find the logo, and then choosed the french language in the admin interface language display to test if the installation worked, I get again error messages and both admin and catalogue interfaces are unaccessible! I need to install the French language contribution for a client, possibly today. Hopefully I can help you, hang on a bit, my eyes aren't fully open yet. Peter
peterr Posted July 3, 2004 Posted July 3, 2004 Hi, Yikes, I did a search for the string "French" in the language contributions and there were 12 contributions. Which one do did you use ?? I'm assuming _the_ one to use is: http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,1371 Peter
yannou Posted July 3, 2004 Author Posted July 3, 2004 I used one of those here : http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,1372 27 Jul 2003 - 2.2 MS2 french language full pack v0.4 I also dld : 6 Sep 2003 - 2.2 MS2 french language correction v0.4 and was planning installing it after the other one. But I guess I'd better get a more recent pack, and especially one who is including detailed install instructions as the article in the Knowledge Base seems not to be enough detailed. If someone can give me more advises on installing languages (I definitely need some, looking at my first attempt to install a language pack) it'll be more than welcome. My web hoster was nice enough to help me correct the problems I had, and is still working on helping me making OSC working correctely. He edited my configure.php and that got rid of all of the main page errors. He also edit the https path, this sorted out a big issue. Also, my cookies were set to yannsdeals.com and cookies should always be in the form of .name so he set it to .yannsdeals.com. Now when logging in the OSC admin pannel some of the things are in french and some others in english even if the displaying language is set to English. That's not a big problem I speak fluently french and english, but I like things that are clean. And I certainly do not want OSC to crap on me again, and not to mention that I need to have my online shop up and running as soon as possible, and I really don't want it to crash after I'll have entered the hundreds of items I'm selling and finished parametering the software.
yannou Posted July 3, 2004 Author Posted July 3, 2004 EDIT : the packages that are here : http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...7/search,french are more recent, I'll have closer look at them this week-end, but I nevertheless still need help on installing language packs. I plan to add the following languages : french, italian, portuguese, and hebrew.
peterr Posted July 3, 2004 Posted July 3, 2004 Hi, It's more recent, but '1371' and '1372' seem to be done by the same Author (Jean Casanova ), that is, not the same author as "1790". :D I'm a bit the same as you, I need to download all 3 contributions, and compare what is in each. It's also never a case of the latest link is the 'full' pack, often just a minor mod. Peter
peterr Posted July 3, 2004 Posted July 3, 2004 Hi, It seems contribution #1790 is an 'install' only, for the French language ?? There are no 'catalog' or 'admin' folders in the contribution. Peter

peterr Posted July 3, 2004 Posted July 3, 2004 Hi, What do you mean by 'install only'? Open up the zip files and check the full destination paths. Peter
yannou Posted July 3, 2004 Author Posted July 3, 2004 Hi, What do you mean by 'install only'? Open up the zip files and check the full destination paths. Peter Well, it seems that the contributors are too lazy to make an help file, not everybody is an expert at oscommerce, or programming (personnaly, I lost contact with hardcore programming 10 years ago, spending time typing code lines is not my favorite pass time). Well, I'm going to see what I can do of OSCommerce. Do I have to mention that, time is money and while we try to get our shops working we are not making money.....
peterr Posted July 3, 2004 Posted July 3, 2004 Hi. Do I have to mention that, time is money and while we try to get our shops working we are not making money..... ... and all the support here costs the same price as the product. free. :D I contacted the developer of contribs #1371 and #1372, and asked him which contribution I should use. He replied: the most recent one, i don't remember the number.but my contribution is now out of support, a recent one, more complete could be downloaded here: http://www.delaballe.com/oscfr/fichiers/ms2fr.zip Peter

Thanks for the input, I hope there is an instruction file in that zip file, I don't want to mess again my osc install ;)
peterr Posted July 4, 2004 Posted July 4, 2004 Hi, Being free doesn't mean, no support. The open source community 'spirit' is where we help each other, but unfortunately, not always can someone help us. :( Thanks for the input, I hope there is an instruction file in that zip file, I don't want to mess again my osc install ;) I _think_ there was, but is was in French, so no help to me, but you would be able to read it. :D Essentially, unzip the entire contents locally (your computer), then upload all the files to your website. The structure of the paths in the zip file is the same as a standard osCommerce. From the looks of the zip file, I'm guessing that this is a "complete" osCommerce that has English, German, Spanish & French. There are even images done in French, so this person has done a very good job. Also, the SQL file used to load the database contains more records than std, I had a quick look and the person who did it has done a good job, loading all the extra relevant parts for the French languge. It seems even the actual 'install' would bein French. There is also a PDF file, highlighting changes, it is called "liste_mise_a_jour.pdf", and also in French. It would appear that there are alos several osCommerce PHP files that are changed from the standard MS2-2, because the dates are past the 12th July 2003 ?? Hope that helps, Peter
