lilape Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 Dear osCommercers, I am developing an online bookstore using osC (http://beta.vedicbooks.co.za). I am wondering what contributions, tools and methods are best to implement and use to get a site like this usefully palced into search engines so that: (a) Spiders index products and product information (I have installed a show_all_products contribution which I can always submit to search engines and the likes). I am not sure if I need to enable the search engine friendly URL's ? This says it's in experimentation so I am a bit warey. (B) Get custom keywords etc. per catagory so that the information that is indexed appears pertinent and useful. Any tips, tidbits and so forth in this regard would be much appreciated. Happy osCommercing! Martin
billybrag Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 i think links to other good quality stores seems to be a big factor, so maybe a links page or linkshare contribution could help? "because it'll hurt more"- the greatest film of all time?
sosidge Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 One of the ways Google ranks the importance of your site is by the number of incoming links - but make sure they are quality ones, not meaningless link farm sites. Also, content is very important. I'm getting good rankings (within my field) with well written descriptions, an "All Products" page contribution, and "Really Easy HTML Title" contribution, which makes the navigation breadcrumb the page title. - osCommerce is fun! -
