To Whom It May Concern:

 

Today when I logged into my google account, I noticed that google now told me that my site had problems. The problem was duplicate meta descriptions, which in theory could be legitimate if the link they found did not link to the same product.

 

Example

If you look at the screen shot the product Id's are exactly the same. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong so I can prevent this.

This has not solved my problem. I appreciate your help though. I need some support ASAP my google site ranking has gone done dramtically. :(

Modify your shop to eighter only use links with cpath included for products or only links without.

 

After redirect the style links not chosen above to the link style chosen above.

The problem seems to originate in your categories menu, which adds the cpath to the url to the product, so edit that box and add rel="nofollow" to the product link

In the categories box, but often these are modified from the original, post the code from the box & I`ll take a look.

Is that the one your using?? That I believe is the stock one, could explain why your site is so slow at times, it uses loads of sql queries, replace it with a css menu.

 

The issue is not with that file, though, having looked again, its your product listing file, you need to remove all the cpath refrences within that, their not needed.

So how can I improve my categories listing? I have no clue what version of osccommerce I am running. What can I do to update?

I used 0.4.1, to install rename the categories_css.php to categories.php and put in boxes. Alter the css in file to match your site

This is adding a massive amount of extra queries for your listing, but (at a glance) appears to achieve nothing, I suggest you delete it asap.

Thank-you so much for you help! I made the changes and with a little luck my problem will be fixed.

 

 

You will need to manually remove the duplicate links (with cpath) in webmaster tools, as since they will remain 'good' google will continue to see them.

I can not remove them because they are not 404 error pages. Google denies my request to get rid of them. What is the altnerative? Should I delete my site from Goog Tools and then re add it?

I just compared my product_listing.php to the one I have. Same version and date on it.

yours has extra code at the top.

<?php echo tep_draw_title_top();?>

			<?php echo $breadcrumb->trail(' » ')?>

<?php echo tep_draw_title_bottom();?>	

<? tep_draw_heading_top_3();?>

 

The breadcrumb is called from application_top in the default file. Whats the purpose of having it in product_listing?
