i think this is a bug. anyone whos got problems try this and see if the pictures show up.

WARNING

this contribution messes up OSC in unexpected ways.
all pages displaying thumbnails will generate a HTTP error 500 (Internal Server Error) on machines running the latest PHP (5.2.4)
you won't get the error in a browser, but all robots will be snubbed.
test before using!

I have 4 different OS sites. I have tried this on all 4 but each time it crashes with an error message on one or more images.

Seems the code is set to DIE if an error occurs rather than default to the standard image handler.

I've looked at the code but I can't see the fault. It either says (in german) "Image doesn't exist" or it says that one of the dimensions is set wrong (both of which aren't the case).

I have spent the last 3 days looking for the alternate feature of thumbnailer, It removes the image not found box in New Products. By just installing this beautiful package you will no longer have the image not found on your New product boxes anymore. This is important for those that have broken images that work with large databases and don't want to manualy remove broken links. Thanks to saving the Day...

Change

$subdir_consola = $subdirectorio[1] . '/';

for

$subdir_consola = str_replace('images/', '', dirname($src)) . '/';

Now you have unlimited subdirectory support!

This file fixes the bug of the html_output.php file

So replace the old file.

Enjoy : now the cache file is efficiently created in the catalog/images/thumbs_cache/ directory

I used the version of date 11 Jul 2006, uploaded by: olaf_noehring

My products images are in different subdirectories depending on the categorie of the product, for example:

catalog/images/videogames
catalog/images/computers
catalog/images/pets
catalog/images/randomstuff

and normally the Thumbnail generator will save all the thumbs created to
catalog/images/imagecache

with this mod the thumbnails will be saved this way:

catalog/images/videogames/thumbs
catalog/images/computers/thumbs
catalog/images/pets/thumbs
catalog/images/randomstuff/thumbs

So this way you have your thumbs organized in the correspondent directory.

This only work with images saved in the catalog/images directory or images saved to the firs next subdirectory like catalog/images/subdirectory

It will not work in directorys like: images/subdirectory/anothersubdirectory/

Most people only need the first directory, my php skills are limited and i only needed 1 subdirectory. But it should be easy to make this work with more subdirectories.

I extended the previous version just a little to make it possible to set the image quality of created jpg thumbnails.

If you have installed already, update instructions are included.

Update/Installation takes not more than 3 minutes I think.

Added support for caching of multiple thumbnails sizes from the same source image, by adding dimensions of cached image to the cache image filename.

Changed line from:

$thumbfile = '/' . basename($image);

to:

$thumbfile = '/'.$x.'x'.$y.'_'. basename($image);

Removal of GIF from 'not supported' parameters to allow gif thumbing.

The only update to this version is 2 lines of code added to the thumbimage function.

Now it will check the original image and see if it has been modified. If so than it will re-cache that image.

To upgrade your existing code simply open
includes/functions/html_output.php

and add

After struggling with trying to get my thumbnails small all morning I have download this contribution and had to change some code to make this work right away with older versions of GD, I'm running 1.6.2 on PHP version 4.1.2 and it works just fine as far as I can tell.

This is a simple modification that will also delete the generated thumbnail image from the imagecache dir.

I updated the script with the update from Lars Iwer listed below (Thank you Lars!!) and the lines listet in the <a tartget="_blank" href="">forum</a>.
So use this download and you have the "newest" version.

in order to work with gdlib versions < 2.0 (i.e. 1&1 still has an old gdlib installed) you should replace the lines

$thumb = imagecreatetruecolor ($x, $y);
imagecopyresampled ($thumb, $image, 0, 0, 0, 0, $x, $y, $imagedata[0], $imagedata[1]);

within the function thumbimage() with

This is an automatic Thumbnail creator.

Each picture in your Shop will be chached in the "/catalog/images/imagecache" directory in the right
size and with the same name as the original.
The size is set in the Admin panel under Configuration - Images.
These values are the max values. The thumbnail will be created in the right proportions.

The tumbnail will be created an th first time the picture is call in the Shop.
Once an thumbnail is created it will always be used until you change the size in the Admin panel.

If you delete an image, you have also to delete the thumbnail in the "/catalog/images/imagecache" directory manually
